'Out in a Blow'
08 September 2008 | Hamble - Cowes - Priory Bay - Hamble
Vic
Out for a weekend with Ian, Rocky and friends. Second time this year for Ian and Rocky.
Crew arrived about 5pm at Hamble in heavy rain, welcomed by Karoline and I with drinks. Ate ashore in the hard to beat now, local restaraunt Waters Edge, Mercury Yacht Harbour. Owners Nick, James, with Chef Martin, Simon and staff doing a great job.
Slipped after safety brief, expected 30 + knots wind. 2 Reefs in main and forsail, hit by 35 knot squalls at entrance to Hamble. Boat handling well and crew doing well.
Planned beam reach down to Priory Bay but now being hit by 45 knots +, trying to get shelter on Island side. Decide to tack in and head in for Cowes.
Thanks to Shepherds Wharf staff moor up and have lunch and more refreshments.
Decide to stay in although wind abating.
Slip 10 am on the sunday and a great sail, forsail reach to Priory Bay and drop anchor. Slip anchor at 3pm with a glorious beat, close hauled in 15 - 17 knots all the way back to Hamble.
Get back in and moor up 7.30pm.
Thanks for a great weekend to Ian, Rocky and friends.
There is a story about the bucket in the picture? 'What goes on, on tour, stays on tour'
