Bras for Fiji

23 May 2017
When Lahnee sailed off into the sunset with her man and two babes she didn't think she would find her calling in Fiji.

An ex nationally qualified gymnast she's found her calling while still living their dream on board their yacht Eos11. Lahnee volunteers teaching exercise classes to the locals in villages. They love it but the larger women need bras to be comfortable.
Check out the mighty Eos blog

She asked me 'Do you still work in the op shop?' I don't but as soon as I realised why, I suggested we advertise among all the women we know including the Facebook group Women Who Sail Australia. We then decided to hold an event at Mooloolaba Marina our home port.

So if you are in Mooloolaba on Friday 26th May come along bearing Big Bras, some bubbles and nibbles.

Lahnee will show us a few exercises and explain her volunteer role with Aerogym. Then we can reward ourselves with a glass of champagne.
Yes blokes are welcome too.

Mooloolaba entrance shoaling

17 May 2017
LATEST REPORT :
Warning issued for boats entering Mooloolah River (Mooloolaba)
24 May 2017
Maritime Safety Queensland has issued a warning to boaties entering and leaving Mooloolaba that there has been severe silting on the eastern (Port Cartwright) side of the river.

According to an article in the Sunshine Coast Daily, there is less than 0.3 metres of water at the eastern side of the breakwater at low tide. The article quotes Mooloolaba Coast Guard's Rod Ashlin saying his organisation had been asked to guide an 18m fishing trawler in from 20 nautical miles out to sea yesterday, the skipper of the trawler unwilling to take a gamble on the bar crossing.

Mr Ashlin told The Daily the silting had been occurring for some time, but once it had started, the shoal built quite quickly, as waves began breaking across it, compounding the problem.

He warned river users if they came in over the leads, they'd be going straight across the shallowest part, which Maritime Safety Queensland assessed to be as shallow as 0.3m on low tide, on the eastern side of the channel.

"It was breaking pretty badly (on the bottom half of the tide)," Mr Ashlin said of yesterday's conditions. "There was surfers and boardriders out there again, coming off in front of boats."

Maritime Safety Queensland warned the centre of the channel was as shallow as 0.8m on low tide at present, and advised the deeper water was to the west.

"Masters of smaller recreational boats, personal watercraft, and passive craft like kayaks and canoes must remain mindful of the heightened risk to larger vessels navigating the river entrance and coastal bar," the official State Government warning read. "Except for entering and departing the river, these smaller vessels and passive craft should keep well clear of the coastal bar and not use it for recreational purposes."

Dredging is expected to take place to correct the situation, but in the meantime yachties heading north for the winter are advised to enter at high tide and to contact Mooloolaba Coastguard on telephone (07) 5444 3222 or on VHF channels 16, 21, 67, 73 or 80 between 06:00 to 22:00, or on channel 16 after 22.00 through to 06.00 the next day, before entering.

My earlier post: The entrance to the Mooloolah river is shallow on the eastern side. Two boats that I know of have hit the bottom coming in, one sustaining damage. Deep keel yachts should avoid low tide so be careful. Always head for the beach, do a dogs leg and come in towards the western breakwater following the leads. The channel is often dredged so the pilot boats can get in and out so its not usually a problem for yachts.
