Charmed in Catalina
25 September 2010 | Avalon Bay, Santa Catalina Island
Butch
Saturday September 18th: We just finished our first afternoon of snorkeling here on Catalina Island. Yeah that's right Catalina Island. We arrived Thursday morning as the sun was coming up after sailing all night from Santa Barbara. We were greeted by about 50 dolphins swimming along with us...it was enchanting then we moored in Avalon Bay. This place is awesome...it's a three ring circus that I've already dubbed "Cashalina". They take only cash and lots of it! We rented a golf cart and drove around Avalon which you must do if you come here. Everyone drives their dinghy's up and down the fairways like there on a Sunday drive talking to each other and just visiting...it's wonderful. I can't believe I'm about to say this but "I like California". There I said it. We plan on staying here until next Thursday when we make the final leg of our passage to San Diego.
Last week we spent 3 days in Santa Barbara. All of the buildings are mission style with well maintained landscaping. They have a trolley system that takes you along the beach and downtown which only cost 25 cents. We had breakfast both mornings at the original Sambos restaurant which the chain is now owned by Dennys. They had homemade hot sauce second to none. If it wasn't for the cost of moorage I could live there permanent.
For all my friends in Oklahoma...you won't believe this...there is a...yeah it looks just like a...I can't believe this...it looks like a Tornado...nah it's just a good lookin' girl in a string bikini! God I love California!
