Eureka!!! We made it to Eureka

Tuesday we rented a car and had a great drive down through the Redwoods...we even walked the Ladybird Johnson Grove trail. We stopped at the beach for a picnic lunch...a very relaxing day.
Wednesday morning we again motored south out of Brookings at 2:00am. The seas were stiff (short sets) so we tacked Southwest ten miles to clear a reef. Once clear we turned south making it much nicer ride. We arrived at the Eureka city docks about 2:30pm...perfect timing for Mike's flight out at 5:40. Chris L.: Just thought you might like to know, the Coasties hassled us too as we entered and exited the bar. Apparently they do that to everyone. They're real nosey about everyone's business.
Thursday morning Susan and I took "Sea Biscuit" our dinghy over to Woodley Island for breakfast. It was a great ride however the restaurant was closed so we decided to take a walk downtown where we found a Dennys. While we ate we reminisced about some old friends we had in town. One of them...Reg Crossan owned a boat dealership which was only a few blocks away. We decided to pay him a visit and see if he was still around after 30 years. I think he was as shocked as we were when we walked in...we had dinner last night and talked about the fun (trouble) we got into years ago. He even loaned us a company truck for a couple of days.
Friday we enjoyed the day in Ferndale famous for its Victorian homes. We all agree...we like the homes in Eureka better. This evening I helped a guy out that was having engine trouble in his dink. I towed him to the boat ramp past Samoa bridge...on the way back I noticed an Irwin 43 from Portland. I knocked on the boat and it was Doug and Kathy Deihl from, S/V "Deihl With It". They came down and had a couple of beers. We really enjoyed their visit. They're here in Eureka for a while. Hope to see them down the road soon.
Saturday we're leaving for Shelter Cove to spend the night on the hook then on to Fort Bragg Sunday evening.
