Hanging out at Farmers

17 May 2012 | Little Farmers Cay
Great weather, but storm coming
The sail from Black Point was quick. Nice thing about the Exhumas is that the most of the runs from Cay to Cay is short hops. No real early mornings or overnighters. The approach to Little Farmers is tricky, having to use a white house on the end of the Cay as a range, loop around the south end of the Cay and then up into the harbour. Gets dicey when you see the depth meter hover around 0.5' for about 400 meters. We grabbed one of the mooring balls from Little Farmers Yacht Club (LFYC). There is a stiff current running through here and holding is not great so the mooring ball was the best option in our mind.
Once settled Paul and I went to LFYC while Wendy and Carol socialized on Odesseous. While we initially went to pay the mooring fee, we ended up enjoying a couple of cold Kaliks while talking with Nixon about little farmers.
The settlement is very interesting. There are three restaurants, a small grocery store, a liquor store, a BATELCO office, airport and two fishing/dive guides. People were friendly and felt very comfortable here.
Across from Little Farmers is a Cay which has a long, uninhabited beach which afforded a great opportunity for walking and beach combing. we had a great few days and would have stayed but weather forcast was glum calling for 40+ knot winds with nasty squalls and huge gusts. Odesseous and Seahawk agreed that the marina at Emerald Bay might be a good place to hold up for this storm, so off we set for a long day run to Emerald Bay.
