Njord's Adventures

North Harbour Anchorage, Preveza

31 July 2016 | Preveza Anchorage
Clare
We got up early 06.30 and were ready to leave the anchorage in Valtou bay by 07.00. We had a longer passage to make today and wanted to arrive at about 13.00 in the anchorage and meet up with David and Marcia.

The passage was uneventful. We did see two dolphins swimming very slowly along the coast quite close in going for breakfast but that was all other than a couple of charter boats. The visibility was not great however.

The entrance to Preveza is a narrow dredged channel but easy to see and follow. It took us 30 minutes to get to the anchorage. We went up past the town quay to the anchorage just to the North West. The Pilot book shows it as an anchorage but the chart plotter and navionics does not. The Pilot book remarks that there is a hazard close to the shore under Zikas Hotel. The depths are variable here and we anchored in 13 metres of water. There is a bit of a ledge and it goes from a 5m contour to 13 metres but with 40 metres of chain out we felt fine.

Our anchor alarm did go off at 02.00 and we got up to check the bearings we had taken and all seemed good.

The water here is a bit green so we did not swim.

This is where a lot of people winter their boats on the hard at Cleopatra Marina.

Vessel Name: Njord of London
Vessel Make/Model: Malo 39 Classic
Crew: Vic Farhi & Clare Harrison
About: Learnt to sail together and the first sailing experience was in Lanzarote in 2005. We then bought Mandarin, a Bavaria 39 and in June 2012 bought Njord, a Malo 39 from the Baltic.
Extra: As attributed to Mark Twain: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bow lines, sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Two weeks of blissful sailing gently around the Ionian in 2019. High season for chartered and family holidays yet we still managed to find some less frequented bays to drop the hook
