Njord's Adventures

Au Revoir Zea

16 July 2017 | Zea Marina, Piraeus
Clare
Coming back to Zea Marina has been lovely, like a homecoming it felt like "home" too. Although busy with lots of coming and going all the time the locals are very friendly, kind and helpful.

To say our goodbyes, although who knows we may be back again, Depy and her daughter Mariella came at 21.00 when their Butcher's shop closed "Meat Me - The Butcher's Market". Mariella is first finishing up primary school and her English is fantastic. In fact the day after they came over she learnt that she had come top in the whole of her school for English. She has a lovely personality and will go far. She took lots of photos on board Njord and posted them on facebook the next day saying what an amazing time she had.

The next evening we went to a local taverna very close by called Four Brothers with Rudi and Sally and Carlos who has joined us for our next trip around the Peloponnese. We had a lovely evening and we want to keep in touch with Rudi and Sally as they are such a fun and lovely couple. Tinker their yacht was next to us for the winter.

Having said goodbye, Rudi had to come and rescue the situation the next day before we left however as our toilet, which had just had a new pump installed was not pumping. He took out the pipe for us and he and Carlos bashed it in the way you would kill an octopus on the pontoon i.e. take it over your head and whip it down onto the pontoon.

Instead of leaving at 10.00 we eventually left our berth at 14.00 and our intended destination was Nisos Poros where we would meet up with David and Marcia

Vessel Name: Njord of London
Vessel Make/Model: Malo 39 Classic
Crew: Vic Farhi & Clare Harrison
About: Learnt to sail together and the first sailing experience was in Lanzarote in 2005. We then bought Mandarin, a Bavaria 39 and in June 2012 bought Njord, a Malo 39 from the Baltic.
Extra: As attributed to Mark Twain: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bow lines, sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Two weeks of blissful sailing gently around the Ionian in 2019. High season for chartered and family holidays yet we still managed to find some less frequented bays to drop the hook
