Passage from Nazare to Cascais
14 July 2014 - Bastille Day
We left in the dark for Cascais which was our longest passage after the Biscay crossing. We quietly motored out of the fishing harbour in Nazare and set our sails very close to the beach. We had our search light out to do this as although it is very deep near the beach as there is an underwater gulley it is also lobster pot highway and it was very foggy. This is the first time we have experienced advection fog in the morning on our trip.

The sail to Cascais was difficult from the wind perspective and the huge Atlantic swell which was approximately 2-2.5 metres and on our beam. So we had to alter course to bring it behind us and give us a safer and less "rolly" ride. We had to motor most of the way and the sky was overcast all day.

We arrived safely in Cascais to the marina which caters for smart superyachts. When we arrived we were asked to go to the reception pontoon and check in. There were three dockmasters waiting for us, one to take each line (bow, mid-ships and stern) and once we had been allocated a berth for our two night stay they arrived again on the pontoon to take our lines; what service, mind you it comes at a price!

Vessel Name: Njord of London
Vessel Make/Model: Malo 39 Classic
Crew: Vic Farhi & Clare Harrison
About: Learnt to sail together and the first sailing experience was in Lanzarote in 2005. We then bought Mandarin, a Bavaria 39 and in June 2012 bought Njord, a Malo 39 from the Baltic.
Extra: As attributed to Mark Twain: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bow lines, sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Two weeks of blissful sailing gently around the Ionian in 2019. High season for chartered and family holidays yet we still managed to find some less frequented bays to drop the hook
