Sines Marina

The journey was motor sailing most of the way with very little wind (10 - 12 knots) but pleasant and not too much Atlantic swell. However we did have 30 knots of wind when we came into the harbour. At the marina, the marinero failed to come and help us even though we called them and asked for assistance, which they offered. Vic huffed and puffed when we saw no-one was waiting for us but we easily and safely moored to the hammerhead which we decided would be our berth for the night. It gave us a good exit route for our departure the next day.

Due to the wind directly behind us however we came in at a pace but as the hammerhead was very long we had no difficulty attaching ourselves to it once I had stepped off.

It is a nice marina with very friendly staff. It is a good, and the only stop off to and from The Algarve & Lisbon.

....... And now for my history bit - Sines' claim to fame is that the Portuguese navigator who discovered the sea passage to India, Vasco da Gama was born here in the castle as his father was the Mayor of the city at the time.
