Move to Puerto Isla Mujeres Marina
12 March 2015 | Isla Mujeres, Mexico

This morning s/v Island Sol moves into a marina, Paraiso, for shore power, water and no-wake nights. Our plan for this morning was to also check out marina prices and availability for Vida Dulce in order to get all of the salt and dirt washed off, outside & in, without using our stored water, laundry for the same reason, get batteries completely charged with shore power, and to work on the many issues that have arisen during the passage; Raymarine AIS failure (this on top of the Raymarine chartplotter backlight issue), port engine ignition failure, dinghy cleaning & resuscitation, and so on. Additionally the watermaker membrane appears to be on its last leg. Jerry is thinking we may need to make a quick trip back to the States to get repairs and/or replacements; neither of us want to do additional passages without reliable AIS. Going back ourselves is probably no more costly than having large bulky items shipped into Cancun, plus we’d avoid shipping & customs delays.
We decide on the Puerto Isla Mujeres Marina; nicer grounds, docks & facilities and slightly less expensive than Paridiso plus closer to the largest grocery store on the Isla. One of Mr. Heath’s stipulations I forgot to mention was that if we were to go to a marina, we are required to have Vida Dulce fumigated (this requirement was not pressed on s/v Island Sol). Once settled Jerry lets the marina staff know; they’ll call the correct person who will be here this afternoon. This afternoon is shortly before 5pm. A very nice young woman arrives dockside. She looks at Vida Dulce. We invite her in; she looks around. Have you had bug problems? she asks. No. Clearly she is not concerned with us having bugs. She’ll be back in half an hour with the documentation. 400 pesos. She does indeed return, an hour or so later by which time we’re enjoying Happy Hour with Charlie, Saundra and their guest, Suzy. Fumigation paperwork received, money given.
During the day Jerry has called the CIS cell phone twice - once in the morning, once in the afternoon - the system is down, then being tested. Perhaps it’ll be available tomorrow. Tomorrow would actually work out great as we and John & Lela, s/v Yachtsman’s Dream also haling from Seattle, WA, plan to ferry in and rent a car for the day for our collective Cancun shopping - marine parts & supplies then Costco and perhaps Wallmart.
