Life is about going with the flow. It’s true everywhere however, living on a boat especially so, given weather, a wide variety of locales, and the fact you’re living on a boat and have a dinghy for a car.

The future opening of Cuba to US citizens & flagged boats has paradoxically made it more difficult to for us get marine insurance for those cruising grounds. Last year we used a company based in Europe to get that coverage; we planned to renew with them again to allow us to cruise Cuba’s south coast this season. Unfortunately the company discovered they should not have covered us last year and so of course will not cover us for Cuba now. We switched back to our original yacht insurance, which is better coverage yet excludes Cuba, Haiti & Venezuela, the last two not an issue at this time. They say they’re working with a company in Mexico to offer Cuba coverage. If that comes through, we may get that additional coverage and proceed with our plan. Everyone we know who has cruised the southern coast speaks highly of it and we’d been planning to go for years now. We’ll just have to see what happens as the season rolls along.

The first part of this season holds as follows: Rio Dulce to Yucatan MX (bypassing Belize check-in/out), mostly in Isla Mujeres, December - February.
