Back with the Dead

01 February 2007
Sunny (as usual), 70 degrees F
We left La Paz yesterday for a gentle sail down the coast back to Los Muertos (Cove of the Dead). Everybody here seems to be alive so maybe the name change has worked and everyone is now dreaming. The trip took 8 hours and it was good to feel the keel under us again. Before leaving La Paz I bought a 44lb Delta anchor (had one on the previous boat and it was great) and it was good to know it was down last night when the wind swung around to the South West and we were on an exposed lee shore.

This morning I went over the side to finish cleaning the hull. We have a hooker on board (aren't I lucky?) and its easy to go down, I mean...it's easy to stay under and clean the bottom breathing compressed air. I also replaced the shaft and strut anodes which was on the list of things to do after spending so much time in marinas getting everyone else's stry electrical currents. The job took a few hours and even though I was wearing a wetsuit I was nearly suffering from hypothermia when I came out. Took about an hour to thaw out. The water temp has fallen to 68 degrees (20 degrees C) and our bodies have climatised to warmer water.

We will leave tomorrow for Puerto Vallarta (home of the Love Boat) and hopefully be in in three days time. The passage is about 320 miles. The prediction is for NW winds 10 - 15 knots over the next few days, so it should be wing and wing and rum punches at sundown in the cockpit.
