We've arrived at SICYC Shagers at Montes Resort

25 August 2014 | Gloucester Passage QLD
Debbie, perfect weather
We are anchored outside the beautiful Montes Resort, where the SICYC (Shag Island Cruising Yacht Club) 2014 Rendezvous is happening. Volare is out in the middle. If you have a larger Computer screen, we're flying a big YOTI flag as well as our Shagers Flag, as are all the other boats. Officially the Rendezvous starts on Thurs but there are about 40 + boats here already as well as the Abell Point Marina owner's beautiful approx 60ft motor cruiser. Well he's brought 2 of his boats up. I believe he's got about 4. They're a major sponsor.

As SICYC's charity is Prostrate Cancer & the last cheque recently presented was for $85,000, Ken Thackeray, who started it was awarded an OAM. Fantastic guy, Greg sold Ken and Rhonda their beautiful Dufour 40 sv Mystique, through YOTI. That's how we met and were amongst the 1st Shagers.

So there's a Prostrate Specialist from the Netherlands flying in especially, other Prostrate Australian Specialists from Brisbane, the Mayor and other VIP's.

They estimate there'll be approx 200 boats here of all sorts. One overseas boat, sv 'Attitude' Neill and Kathy have been cruising and caravaning Australia for nearly 2 years now. Therefore they recon about 2000 pax at the main function, all in Caribbean Pirate & Wench outfits. They'll be lots of Parrots around too, cause there's a Parrot Head Party too. Never ever been to anything as big as this on the water!!! 3150 members in 15 countries AND that's grown in only 4 years.

So reasonable to join, only $50 and you get. T Shirt, a burgee, you have to nominate a bay or beach or something as everyone is a Vice Commodore of where you live. If that's taken you can be a Vice Commodore of anywhere else as long as it's not taken. Great way of meeting people on the water, as the flag says....
