Day 7 - Hoi An

02 September 2015
we were picked after breakfast & taken to see My Son sanctuary.
It is the site of ruins of the ancient Cham empire, lots of walking. You cross over a very old bridge & into some gorgeous scenery, very old tress. It comprises a lot of religious relics very old ruins of the teles & towers made with red brick. The tower was built to reflect the divinity of the king. These were built in the 4th century.
We then went back to the bus which took us to the river Thu Bon which we board for a picnic lunch & a slow cruise on the river.
We returned to the hotel after stopping off at a ceramic factory, very clever artists.

Day 6 - Hue

02 September 2015
Had breakfast then waited in the foyer for our guide.
David had gone walk about so she just left me & was quite annoyed then sent someone else who took us to wait outside some cafe for the big tour bus. We then went to visited the Imperial City, where the king who reigned there had 500 wives, 700 concubines & 174 children. QUITE something. We also visited the Thien Mu Pagoda. We then went to the Tomb of Khai Dinh after which we were all temped out & ready for lunch at a local restaurant. The food was not nice at all. We then returned to our Hotel called the Moonlight Hue & went across the road & had a drink while waiting for our driver to take us to Hoi An. The drive was a nightmare due to ongoing construction.
Thankfully we arrived in one piece at a very nice resort called the Vinh Hung Riverside resort. We retired early.

PORTIMAO

Dawn
The reason we have not done a blog for awhile is that there is not much to report. When we arrived in Portimao on the 15th July, we were so happy to be here we decided to give ourselves a treat & go into the Marina for a few days. We contacted David & Gail Hamp Adams our friends who live here, & have been very well looked after by them. We like Portimao it is a city of contrasts with the very old part cobbled streets & old buildings & then the new part very modern. When we were here nearly 27 years ago it was a little fishing village it is now as big as Durban. We left the Marina after 4 days & are anchored in a bay which is surrounded by great beaches a lovely old castle & various beach activities going on around us all day long. Yachts come & go everyday mostly English cruisers & then the French are the majority, we were lucky to meet up with a South African yacht called Vento with 2 Afrikaanse couples on board we became quite friendly with the one couple Francois & Riana van Dyk, they have left for Lagos. We are waiting for David our friend to come back from South Africa as he is bringing a spare part back for us. David will fit the part & then most probably we will leave for the Beleraic Islands. We will keep you posted.
