04/13/2008, in Cayo Herradura, Tortuga
Most of the boats in the picture are the local fishing boats. The big blue shrimp trawler is actually a cruising boat - Twilight. They have a huge watermaker on board and were very generous with it, giving as much water to the local fishermen as they wanted. The fishermen were so grateful that Twilight kept coming out to their back deck and finding another fish, or more lobster being given to them as thank you's that they filled up their freezer!

04/12/2008, Tortuga Island
One of the most beautiful beaches we've ever been to with silky, white sand and a sweeping curve that led to some boogie boarding. And the best thing about it is that it's far enough away from the mainland that it's really only viable for a long weekend visit for most of the go-fast boats. (We sailed all night to arrive there by morning, but since we stayed for almost a month, we had plenty of time to recuperate!)

OK, it was a few days early, but that's only because we were sailing to Tortuga on my ACTUAL 40th Birthday. It wasn't the best sail of our career, but hey, there are worse ways to spend it!

OK, it's not really a monster from the deep. It's actually just a manatee skeleton. But geez it's scary!!
