En Route to Tahiti Friday 27th
27 July 2012
All is well. An unexpectedly demanding passage; the start was delayed by an engine problem. Running the engine for battery charging, the oil pressure alarm triggered, turn off engine and investigate; engine compartment covered with a good thick layer of engine oil. The bilges full of oil, and none left in the engine. Luvly Jublee. It appears a drip of water from the back of the water pump, wetted the oil filter which rusted through. Hey ho, a day spent cleaning up, new filter, new load of oil, water pump leak to fix sometime when we can get new seals. Now on passage- the weather is not as expected. A front is giving us continuous lumpy seas on the beam accompanied by wind extremes between 0 and 20 knots. Hard sailing, constant sail change. Current sail plan fully reefed main, dirty blue jib (a small yankee). Pot noodles for tea. Kev
