Last One I Promise

06 March 2015
Scottie/Thunder Storms
I promise I won't fill our blog with too much history stuff. I'm sure I will get bored of it to. I knew nothing of The Lycians so they are a wonderful discovery, their culture, their buildings and tombs. A lot of the popular historical sites you see all the time in movies and TV, where as The Lycians were unknown to me but you have to appreciate an empire that lasted 1300 years and was respected by all the occupying nations that came later. We went to Tlos last Wednesday.
It is one of the oldest and largest settlements of Lycia (known as 'Tlawa' in Lycian inscriptions) and was subsequently inhabited by Romans, Byzantines and eventually Ottoman Turks, making it one of few Lycian cities to be continually inhabited up until the 19th century. In the pictures you can see the Lycian Tombs, The the Romans came and built the Coliseum, then later the Ottomans built the fort on top.
Hope you are all keeping well Love Scottie & Heidi
