We left Friday, Septembr 29 at 1:pm from Westbrook. After adding 30 gallons of diesel, we proceeded towards the Race with a SOG of over 9 knots, with 2500 rpm and full jibb
After the Race the wind shifted to the nose, so we fuled in the jibb.
Getting closer to Point Judith the swells were occasionally close to 8 ft with 2-3 ft ripples.
We hoisted the main and the ride got much smoother.
We arrived in Cuttyhunk around 11 pm, Boy going through Penipske Island and Cuttyhun in that dark was quite an adventure.
Our plan was to grab a mooring for a few hours since we were way ahead of schedule for the Cape Cod canal.
However, the moorings were all replaced with sticks, so we decided to continue to the Canal.
Arriving in Onset at 2 am, we grabbed a mooring for a few hours.
The canal was at it's mightiest, with 4.5 knots against us. Those who have made it into Onset can only imagine the horrors of trying to make that turn at 2 am in the morning. We actually passed the turne, turned the boat so that we lay across the channel. Drifting sideways at 4.5 knots is quite an adventure ! After gunning it and crabbing into Onset, we found that the moorings were still in, so we just grabbed it.
We could have probably made it through the Canal, however, I did not want to go through the minefield of lobster pots off Plymouth and Scitute in the dark.
Leaving around 5 am, we had a georgeous sail
