Leaving Velcro

01/10/2008, Vero to Miami

OK. So after some harasment from Jay Poland and the guys back at the office, we decieded to move on south. Plan was to simply get the hell out of Vero, and then see what happens. After fueling and taking on water(1030), with tears in our eyes, we leave our beloved Velcro Beach :) As we approached Ft Pierce inlet(12:00), giving a serious 15 seconds of thought, I head out into the ocean (Michele is going ' but...but..but...'). I spent the next 8-10 hours cursing Michele's decision to go outside. I was dark when we reached the next inlet at Lake Worth (Palm Beach). I was too chicken to enter in the dark, so on we go to Ft. Lauderdale. Arrive Ft. Lauderdale at 0730 Friday. That inlet was too busy for me to use, so on to Miami... Arrive Miami's Govt Inlet. That one is also too busy, but I'm sorta out of options,so in we go. There is a section with rock jettys on each side and it's not very wide. I calculated it would take me 12 minutes to get through this (once your in, there's no turning back). In we go...not so bad after all. A third of the way through and we see the container ship comming out! Figure out how many times you can say 'oh shit' in 8 minutes...and then double it.
After not getting run over (although we did have a conversation with the guys on the ship(they liked our boat)...and we didn't have to yell), we made our way to Cranden park marina to take a mooring.
Over all, a good run. Seas were 4-6' and winds 15-20 SSE (had to motor sail most of the way:(

Still in Velcro Beach

Now we're back to shorts weather again although the last couple fo days have been spritzing on and off. Tomorrow we're going to rent a car and then marathon it up and down the east coast of Florida to hopefully take care of all remaining outstanding chores/tasks/visiting and all of that stuff. Then, no surprise and hold on to your hats, hang out in Vero Beach just a tad bit longer. Although this time it will be solely to wait for a weather window so that we can head south down to Miami and then make a left over to the Bahamas. We are going to come in either at North Bimini or I think the other place Tim had mentioned was Rum Cay although I may have the latter wrong. Anyway, my time is running out at the library (they only give you an hour) so I'm going to run. Take care everybody. We miss you.
