We're anchored in Elizabeth Harbour which is made up of Great Exuma Island on the west side, and Stocking Island on the east. Most of the fun stuff takes place on Stocking Island, which is where Volleyball Beach, Monument Beach and Sanddollar Beach are located. Stocking Island appears to be largely un-inhabited. Georgetown, the town,is located on Greate Exuma Island, which is 2-3 miles across the harbour. I remembered to take the camera with me today when we went in to get some food, water and gas (@$5/gal), so I could get some shots of downtown Georgetown....

A cold front blew through the other day. Winds clockedaround from the south to the north and have been blowing 20 - 35 kts. Makes it quite bouncy in the anchorage, but we're in close to a north shore so we're in good shape. Many boats that were anchored on the other side of the harbour have come over here to get out of the wind. Now our little anchorage has gotten a bit crowded. It's very shallow between us and the beach (I ran aground there when we 1st came in to anchor), so no boats will anchor there and that is where the strong wind is comming from.

Lots of wind and no sun is a good time to take a hike. We dinked down to Monument Beach to hike around. Got some nice shots of the island.

We made it to Georgetown on Saturday afternoon and have been so caught up in the events and activities that we haven't had a chance to update our blog. We missed the sock hop last night but did have a chance to catch the weather seminar by Chris Parker yesterday. We're anchored near Dave and Marghi and we watched Dave play beach volleyball on Monday. They play volleyball every day, there are yoga classes, trivia pursuit nights, poker games, art classes and you name it as far as activities. Every morning at 8 they get on the radio and announce all of the activities for the day and then go through various announcements about the upcoming regatta which is next week. There are currently over 300 boats here and this place is crazy.

At a later date, I'll post the activities for the regatta which of course consist of a race, a golf tournament, a pet parade (I can seeGizmo entering in that), a scavenger hunt, a variety show, something called a cocounut harvest which involves dinghies, fins and lots of people getting wet. These are just a few of the events in the regatta. It should be a hoot and it looks like we will probably be here through at least part of it.

In town, it's a pretty big settlement w/ a couple of cute shops and an amazing grocery store. They have things in there that back in the states, would only be found in gourmet shops - truffle oil, wasabi mustard, you name it in this little teeny tiny shop about the size of a blockbuster store. We bought some banana bread from Mom's who brings by baked goods 3x/week and sells them out of her van and gives everybody a hug. Great banana bread! She's supposed to have killer rum cake which we will have to try.

The picture above is of one of the many anchorages in Georgetown when we were coming in on Saturday.
