Heading South September 2012 II Sunday, September 02, 2012 Underway in the Atlantic Ocean east of Great Egg Harbor Inlet Water temperature 78 F

We've had a fast trip south, so far. Going down the East River in NYC and through Hell Gate we had up to a 5 knot current pushing us. We were going 11 knots SOG and there were four foot high standing waves in the river. At times we were tossed around like we were a little dinghy. Once we were offshore at Sandy Hook the wind got up to 22 knots, considerably more than the 10 to 15 forecast. After a few hours the wind was down to about 17 and we were sailing under a full main and the staysail. By 10 PM we were sailing with the main and the jenny in 12 to 15 knots on a close reach.

We should be in Cape May before noon.
