Cruising the Chesapeake September 2012 V Thursday, September 13, 2012 Anchored in the East Fork of Langford Creek off the Chester River off the Chesapeake Bay Water temperature 75 F
We moved the boat all of ten miles yesterday down the Corsica River, across the Chester River and up Langford Creek. We stopped for fuel at Langford Bay Marina on the way and took on 42 gallons of diesel. The last time we fueled was in Stonington, CT about 3 weeks ago.
After stopping for fuel, we continued up Langford Creek turning into the East Fork at the split. We are anchored again on a pretty stretch of river with trees on both banks, a few houses set back in the trees and a few docks and duck blinds on the banks. There is very little boat traffic on the river; a few crabbers and fishermen and not much else. It is a very quiet place to be. A lawn mower a quarter mile away sounded loud in the absence of any other noise.
Once we had the big boat anchored we went exploring by dinghy back into several shallow creeks leading off Langford Creek going back into the woods. We saw several Blue Herons standing on the shoreline, a Bald Eagle took of from a tree right in front of us and an Osprey flew low over us. We have seen eagles and ospreys almost every day since we anchored up on the Corsica on Sunday. When Kalko goes up on deck I tell her she needs to be careful or she will end up being bird food.
It would be hot and miserable here in August but now that the weather has cooled down some, these rivers off the Chesapeake are one of the nicest places we have been.
