Cruising the Chesapeake September 2012 VIII Friday, September 28, 2012 Anchored in the Rhode River off the Chesapeake Bay, MD Water temperature 73 F
Fifteen minutes before sunrise yesterday the main was up, the anchor pulled and we were heading out Worton Creek. The wind was brisk as we raised the sail but by the time we were out on the Bay it had dropped to 5 knots. By 8:30 the tide was ebbing and we had a 1 to 1.5 knot push all the way down the Bay past the Bay Bridge. We didn't get to sail but it was a fast, pleasant motor sail on a calm bay.
Our destination was Camp Letts on the Rhode River, just south of Annapolis, site of the Seven Seas Cruising Association Annual GAM. By last night over 30 boats were anchored here and there were at least 20 dinghies rafted together for an evening pass-a-dish, talk cruising get together. Today the GAM gets started and goes until noon on Sunday.
