onward to Green Turtle
30 January 2013 | Black Sound, Green Turtle Cay
We had a great night at Great Sale and woke to calm seas. We set out for Spanish Cay or Green Turtle. Heading up the cay we had a light wind and current against us, but when we turned east we had the wind with us and no current. We motored sailed across the clear blue waters at a leisurely pace enjoy warm air and wind. We had a nice trip across the banks and came n the Abaco seas at Spanish Cay. We still had lots of time and decided to continue on towards Green Turtle Cay. The customs lady was not at Spanish so we didn't see any sense in going in. We went as far as Manjack Cay and anchored with about 8 other boats. As we were crossing the banks once we were close to Spanish we saw a phone tower and went on kindle 3g and sent an e-mail to Christa to say we were here and safe.
The wind picked up through the night from the east which was great for where we were, but we checked the anchor a few times through the night. In the morning we decided to head to Green Turtle to get a mooring and check in through customs. We got a mooring and David went ashore to check in and then went to customs. The books said for just the captain to go ashore but the lady said it was ok if both of us came in. So we are now checked in and can go ashore. Which we did.
We picked up some coconut bread sent out a quick blog and did a walk around before heading back out to the boat.
The next day after a quiet night we woke to a rooster crowing, way before sunrise and continuing anytime it felt like. It wasn't loud so it didn't bother us. After breakfast we worked on the autopilot and found we needed a lock washer to fix the loose end. We went ashore and rented a golf cart for about 5 hours for $35. We went over to the phone company open only Tuesdays and Thursdays, and got a sim card for our cell phone and some money put on it. We then did a tour of White Sound where we stayed last time we were here. We picked up the washer and stopped at Leeward Yacht Club to see about stopping for supper. We went along the east coast of the island and stopped at the beach to watch the Atlantic waves coming in. We passed where we are in the sound and the boat is just out from us. We were in town walking when a car stopped and asked if we wanted a lobster salad for $6. We dug out 5 and she said that was ok. we should have bartered I guess. Back at the boat we fixed the autopilot, then got cleaned up for supper. We went by dingy.
