Everyone who cruises knows that friendships made on the water are meant to last. Three summers ago on Labor Day Weekend Bill offered to take a picture of the couple docked next to us at Thessalon Ontario. We ended up spending the weekend with Gene and Carole, weathered in at Drummond Island. Gene and Carole are from Richmond Hills GA, a suburb of Savannah. They were completing the Great Loop on their motor cat, Sweet Dreams. We exchanged boat cards and Facebook info. We have been in continuous contact ever since.

We almost crossed paths several times over the last year. We had our solar panels shipped to Gene's address and he delivered them to our Marina near Savannah, but they were traveling out of town when we were in Savannah so there was no face to face contact. Sweet Dreams left Bimini the morning we arrived... In the afternoon. Finally we reunited at their place in Richmond Hills on our drive back to Milwaukee in the spring.

But this story is about water reunions.... We learned Gene and his friend Mike were transiting the ICW south at the same time we were this fall. In fact they were only a day behind us! Since Sweet Dreams travels at a higher speed than we do, and she sometimes goes offshore, it was inevitable she would catch us. And she did. We anchored for the night at the Addison NASA bridge near Cape Canaveral. Gene texted they planned to come in from the Atlantic at Port Canaveral, a few miles south of our anchorage. When he learned our location, he said "we will meet you there" and sure enough at 4:30 we spotted her hull on the horizon heading out way. Sweet Dreams rafted off Whisper and what followed was a great evening of food, drink and storytelling.
