Up at 0530 to prepare for departure. It's cool and drizzly. We discover that our Tricolor light doesn't work. Also, our fancy, new chart plotter is a big black screen staring at us. Gotta love fancy gadgets. Looks like we just use our trusty IPad for charts.
We get underway at 0700.Carl and Melissa on PERCEPTIONS are buddy boating with us. Calm in Rappahannock-- winds almost non-existent.
The calmness was very short lived.
Motored to Chesapeake-- winds are out of of SW around 10. Seas lumpy. Raised jib around 0900. Average speed with motorsailing 5-6 knots. Seas increase to around 2 feet with some swells of about 4 feet.Gonna be a long day at this rate. Hopeful for wind shift late morning.
Anticipated wind shift around noon. Now about 12 knots out of the NW. Much smoother ride with following seas. Seas are still around 2-3 feet. Time for lunch!!
Lunch in cockpit of cold rotisserie chicken, pasta salad and boiled eggs.
The afternoon progresses smoothly, and we make good time.
Clouds really socked in around 3:30 pm. Still making about 5.5 knots with jib and engines at 1800 RPM's.
We reach Portsmouth around 6:30 pm. Staying on free town docks. Perceptions snuggled in in front of us.
Dinner is homemade white chicken chili-- sure hit the spot on this cool, wet day. Thankful for our freezer. Nothing like a home cooked meal!!
After dinner, Robert takes Maggie for a walk, I do dishes. We have a short visit with Carl to plan tomorrow's trip.
Bedtime is early for me. Robert stays up doing his "night owl" routine.
