Slow, Calm Day in the Dismal Swamp
12 October 2014 | From VA to NC
Becky
After a good night of sleep, we're underway at 0900. It's cool and overcast.
We motored down to await the 10:00 opening of the Gilmerton Bridge, and it opened shortly after our arrival.
Now on to the Great Dismal Swamp---- arrived outside the Deep Creek Lock around 10:30--- it opens at 11:00. Into the lock without trouble-- total of 6 boats inside.
We made our way slowly down the Dismal Swamp--- lovely, calm, tree-lined canal.
Lunch is a repeat of yesterday--- chicken, pasta salad, boiled eggs.
Arrived at the Dismal Swamp visitor's center around 2:30. Rafted up with Carl and Melissa on PERCEPTIONS, and headed out for a walk around the center. Maggie is happy to be able to go for a walk!
There are 6 boats at the visitor center. Met some new folks. Seems all are heading south, just as we are--- seeking warmer temperatures.
Time to relax, and enjoy cocktail hour!!
Dinner is planned--- the spaghetti sauce is simmering away, and smells divine!!
Hoping to depart tomorrow am (not too early) and head for Elizabeth City, NC. Robert has to do a little work!!
