Crossing the Albemarle Sound

16 October 2014
Becky
Underway at 0800. Motored out the river-- towards the Albemarle Sound. Looks like we'll have lots of company today-- numerous sailboats ahead of us.
Raised the jib -- winds are out of the
at about 10-12 knots. Slight chop on the Albemarle, but not bad. Average 5.5-6 knots. Robert has numerous meetings for work, so I man the helm.
Robert is struggling today-- his right knee is very swollen and painful. I put him in a knee brace, and I'm icing it periodically.
Lunch is salad, boiled eggs, and fruit. Side of ibuprofen for Robert.
Maggie has slept in the cockpit all morning.
We continue to motor sail all afternoon. Made it to our anchorage at Tuckahoe Point around 4:00 pm. Seems something is amiss with our windlass anchor-- Robert lies down on the trampoline (bum knee and all), and deploys the anchor manually, using the winch. Our trusty Mantus anchor sets, and Carl and Melissa pull alongside shortly. We raft up together , and enjoy a cocktail!!
Dinner is leftover spaghetti-- that depletes the leftovers. I'll need to do some cooking tomorrow.
We decide to watch a little TV. We're laid back on the settee, relaxing. All if a sudden, a very loud, very low flying jet comes by. Wow!!! That was loud enough to break the sound barrier!! This goes on for about an hour!!!
Finally, the jets go away, and our anchorage is peaceful once more.
Early to bed-- planning an 0700 departure tomorrow.
