Fun Times!

09 November 2014
We had a great time in Swansboro last night. Their Christmas Tree Lighting service was happening. The streets were lined with luminaries, and music filled the air! Santa was present as well. Robert wanted to ask him for a new sail drive for our starboard engine, but there were too many kids in line. We had a great dinner at Yana's, a funky little place. It was hoppin'!!! Onion rings, burgers, shrimp, breakfast all day, delicious apple fritters!! Yum!!!! Elvis even said a "thank you very much" as you exited the restroom!!
We waddled back to SeaQuell for a game of Mexican Train Dominoes, but only completed half of it-- all those carbs+ a few cocktails= a sleepy bunch!! Robert and I finally took showers around 10:30 pm, and we're in bed by midnite.
Sunday morning 0630, it's time once again to be underway!! It's drizzling rain, but not nearly as chilly this morning. Dolphins greeted us just as we left the marina-- What a beautiful sight.
We made it to the Onslow Bridge right on schedule--- just a few minutes before the 0900 opening. We are motor sailing today-- light west winds.
After clearing the bridge, we note numerous military vessels. There are lots of military exercises going on in this area.
Around 1030, the sun finally decides to peep out-- warming up the cockpit a bit. We enjoy a leisurely ride down the ICW, looking at lovely homes, watching lots of fisherman, and spotting waterfowl, and one deer!!
We made it to the noon opening of the Surf City bridge, and enjoyed a light lunch-- finished the leftover stew. It really hit the spot! I'm still a little chilly, despite a T-shirt, sweatshirt, and a jacket.
We chat with Perceptions and Nemo on the VHF radio, trying to make our plans for this evenings' anchorage/mooring/marina. At this point, it depends on 2 more fixed bridge openings and Mother Nature (wind, currents, etc) where we land tonight.
We made it through the remaining 2 fixed bridges, and with the current pushing us along, arrived in Wrightsville Beach around 4 pm. Captain Robert picked a lovely anchorage. Our trusty Mantus anchor set easily, and our new windlass worked like a charm. Perceptions and Nemo rafted up on either side of SeaQuell.
Robert carried Maggie ashore in the dinghy, and made an ice and ice cream run while out.
We all enjoyed a delicious spaghetti dinner aboard Nemo. Thanks Judy!! We finished our game of Mexican Train Dominoes, discussed tomorrow's plan, and returned to our respective boats for an early bedtime.
