Angel Island 7/19-20/2014

20 July 2014
Well,
we had a nice time on our overnight at Angel Island.
Arrived Richmond about 1300 hours. Got the boat going and found our goal Ayala Cove to basically be an upwind mark on a race course. The mark was straight upwind, and the tide was flooding hard. Completely against us.
we tacked a bit but it was also blowing pretty good (gust to 25) so I had us double reefed for the crew's comfort. After a bit we arrived and set up for the buoy grab.

This guy came up in a dinghy and attempted to assist us. We really did not need any help, but since he was offering, we allowed him to help. He proceeded to pull the boat hook out of Adriana's grasp, and completely screwed up what was a fairly straight forward double buoy grab. Well, we got dialed in without scratching anything anyway. whew...

The kabobs we had hoped for were not to be. The skewers somehow got left behind. The beef, chicken, salad, and veggies were superb anyway. We had a movie with dinner, an all time favorite...Captain Ron.

"I said there weren't any GO-rillas on the island....Guerr-rillas, GO-rillas. BIG difference!" HA!

Set up the hammock on the foredeck for the first time. Everyone took a turn. It was pretty fun. Definitely discovered a new thing to keep and have available on the boat..I love it when I find something for the first time that I know will be ever so useful in the future...

Sunday Am woke late to mild drizzle. Played on the kayak and took a hike up to the gun batteries. Saw a cannon demo by the ranger which was a first.. Ranger shot 1/2 pound of black powder out of a brass cannon. Big cloud of smoke.. Pretty cool.

Had chicken quesadillas for lunch. Super good. Caught a nice easy run back to Richmond under jib only doing about 4.2Knots.
Nice end to a beautiful overnight.

Wicked Fun/2002 C&C 110

19 July 2014
Wicked Fun rests at mooring on a prior occasion in Ayala cove..
Sort of looks like a view of a pirate ship from high on "Treasure Island!"

Wicked Fun is a C&C 110 made in 2002. She is 36'4" long. She is sort of a tweener in the evolution of 110 boats. She has the original Selden Aluminum mast which preceded the carbon rigs. She has a 6' draft, just missing the newer 6'5" performance keel that came later. She is an epoxy boat, which is good, because the earlier models made of vinylester were heavy and prone to blistering problems.

She is fast, but a comfortable cruiser.. Other boats in the area are rated PHRF 87 and 90.. I have plans to get a cert for her, and to race in the YRA party series in 2015. Much to do until then.

On the comfort side, we have a BBQ, a TV, an inverter, a stand up shower stall, a Kayak, full frig.. All good stuff...

More later..

It Begins...

19 July 2014
This is basically a test post. Trying to see what this will look like.

Today we have an overnight planned to Angel Island. Crew for the day consists of Captain Sean, First Mate Adriana, Bosun Josh, and Adriana's mother Angeles who is visiting from Guadalajara, MX. We plan to go to the boat around noon, sail over to Angel island, spend the night on the moorings, and to return to Richmond Sunday noonish. A hike of some sort may be involved. Certainly some beach play for Josh.

Tonight's menu consists of a new fave....Kabobs on the grill. The recipe calls for beef, chicken, some bacon, bell peppers and onions....Good stuff! And wine....and beer!

Tomorrow morning.. Bagels, cream cheese, and lox...Coffee!
It is sure to be a great mini adventure, but I sure wish Kevin and Kyle were here.. See you Sunday night boys...I miss you..
