My how time flies!

My how time flies! – Well, I must confess to being a little overwhelmed and getting mixed up into the real world pace again faster than expected. Here it is mid-June, we have been back in Miami for almost 3 weeks, back in our house for almost a week, and I have not updated the blog. My sincere apologies! [...]

Back in the US, kinda!

Back in the US, kinda! - We are on US soil! There is no immigration or customs office out here so there is no way to clear into the US. So we are kinda' illegal aliens! But we are flying our Q flag and no one seems to care. Or maybe they don't know what it means. Anyway, we are getting closer to [...]

Isla and beyond!

Isla and beyond! - We stopped in Isla Mujeres to officially clear into Mexico, wait out some weather and do some provisioning. Actually US immigration really doesn't care about where we started from to reenter the US, and they don't ask for a Zarpe so we could have gone on to Florida without stopping [...]

The last flag!

The last flag! - Having skirted along the outer cays and atolls of Belize, we headed north to Mexico. I went to the flag bag that we have been using for the whole trip to store our courtesy flags for each country and it only had one flag left. It was the Mexico flag. All the others had been used and [...]

Belize it or not!

Belize it or not! - Sorry. I could not resist! We planned an 18 month trip and we are now into the 18th month so it is time to head home. We have about 800 miles to go with Belize and Mexico yet on the itinerary. We could go nonstop or we could take our time. Or we could stop a few places as we [...]

Guate!

Guate! - The ride into Guatemala City, or Guate for short as the locals call it, takes you along the Rio Montagua river valley as it winds is way up to the mountains. The Rio Dulce is at sea level and Guate is at about 6000 ft. so the climb is steep at times. Plus it's mostly a rural two land road [...]

Makin' lemonade again!

Makin' Lemonade Again! - We are still in our slip at Saga Haven Marina on St. Thomas waiting on parts for the transmission. It has now been almost two weeks and there is no guarantee it won't last another. We spent last week doing our normal land based chores of laundry and grocery shopping along with some small maintenance projects on Wildest Dream. Then over the weekend we visited with Georgeann and Jimmy and went out on their big RIB for some snorkeling on the north side of St. Thomas! We have spent this week doing more maintenance and a lot of reading! Now we are down to waxing, varnishing and caulking!

We got Georgeann's Jeep today and went exploring the north side of St. Thomas. We're getting the driving on the left side down pat. We first went to run some errands and then looked up the St. Peter Great House and Botanical Gardens. We saw the advertisement in a What's Happening-type magazine about the island and wanted to check it out.

In the 1800's the house and its scenic location was originally part of the 150-acre Plantation St. Peter. After almost being destroyed during Hurricane Hugo in 1989, it was rebuilt and today showcases a classic West Indian architecture with a self-guided nature trail including waterfalls, tropical bird aviaries, fish ponds, and 150 species of Caribbean plants and fruits. There are also great views of the bays on St. Thomas looking over to St. John, Jost Van Dyke and Tortola from the west.

Also, today was the beginning of the Rolex Cup Regatta in St. Thomas. The races started and ended in Charlotte Amalie Harbor and we happened to catch the end of one of the races from an overlook high above the city harbor. Tomorrow we are planning to take our dingy out and watch some more of the races that will be near where we are.

It also Spring Break here on the island so it's busy around with a lot of activity. And, while we are anxious to be heading out again, we are making the best of our time here in St. Thomas. We're making lemonade again!
