A Word about Crab

27 January 2013
The crab here is like nowhere else on earth. It melts in the mouth, makes your taste-buds zing. Transcendental. However, it comes in an armoured, spiky, leggy form, called Centolla, and you have to work for it. The best meat is to be found in the legs but these are protected with wicked spikes and a tough shell that requires a chainsaw and leather gloves to penetrate. All in all, too much effort. But we have had a stroke of luck. Mr Fix-It round here, Dennis, apart from many things also does your laundry. But poor Malcolme's sweat shirt suffered some kind of accident in the washing process which left a small, bleached mark somewhere round the rear. Dennis was mortified. As compensation he has given us a large plastic box of the delicious Centolla which we gulped down with boiled potatoes (of excellent, local quality) and some mayo. Shame about Malcolme's shirt, but it's an ill wind.... PS We have found a small restaurant run by a woman called Betty from, more or less, her front room, and she cooks the Centolla with a cheese crust. Nothing better on earth.
