The next leg...
28 January 2013
It's a waiting game at the moment. We are sitting in Puerto Williams, the boat ready to go, but there's no chance of leaving till the man from the Chilean Navy lowers his flag which declares the port re-opened after last night's blow. It's time to be heading home and the GPS tells me it's a tiny 7000 mile hop to Falmouth. Mmmm. My crew, Malcolme Collins ( former Jester Azores Challenge skipper) and Mike Godfrey are, despite all my predictions, still with me and will take the next 1200 mile ride probably to Punta Del Este in Uruguay. After that I will be on my own for the long flog home. But the adventure is not over and the next week or so can offer some challenging sailing as we work our way north from the Le Maire Strait. I have been watching the GRIBs till they are dancing before my eyes. An experienced local skipper tells me not to wait for a good forecast because you'll never get one! PS just checked the 'closed' flag - still flying.
