Floating !!!!!
26 January 2010 | Jolley Harbour Antigua
Georg
Today was launch day ... She actually floats :-). Right at the end, George the electrician realized that he had forgotten to put the anode onto the propeller ..(I would not be surprised if it was the launch crew that actually saw it ..) at least we know it's missing who knows how long it would have taken me otherwise to realize that some thing's wrong.. Not sure I'm really going to try to put in on in the marina :-)
Other then that everything went smooth .. Things that currently don't work: - Freezer (might be just a blown fuse as I don't get 12 V at the cooler unit- I need to trace these wires somehow ..) - Air conditioning not sure what's wrong I think I don't have 220V at the outlets.(the boat has those silly UK safety outlets that won't let you stick in the probes of the voltmeter..) - I have not powered up the AC inverter yet. - I have not been able to figure out how to turn on the radar yet I assume this can be done through one of the two chart plotters.
Tomorrow we are going to setup the sails and hook up the solar panels & the wind generator. I also need to start thinking about where to put all my stuff ( tools&spares) .......
PS: Jill started her trip today. Tonight she will stay at the Miami airport and should then arrive tomorrow (Wednesday) at the resort around 4PM ( as the boat is clearly not ready for living aboard yet, I extended our stay at the resort until Friday....:-) )

super hot day ...

Georg
I was working most of the day down below inside the stern how much fun that was at + 100 F but it was definitely needed .. What a mess it was ! Before I had moved the battery it was impossible to to get access to this part of the boat this could somehow explain why the wiring was such a mess ..... Anyway I straightened it 'all' out. Currently I have only 3 extra wires ???? I noticed, that the panel holding the automatic tuner for the SSB was hanging on only one glue joint , all the others had come off .... That's something the fiber glass guy needs to fix tomorrow. I also got the new LPG valve controller up and running, but unfortunately I have a leak on my new LPG regulator. I think I know what's wrong therefore It should be an easy fix .. All in all it was a good day . It got a little stressful at the end around 6 PM , as I decided to glue the last 4 joints on the arch with 4min epoxy I guess when they say 4min the really mean it :-) I sure felt like only 2 min to me .... anyway it's done now. It for sure won't come apart anymore. PS (it get's dark super fast around here by 6:30 it's dark!) If I can get the electrician to hook up the house batteries tomorrow, I'll be in good shape
Falling behind a bit....
23 January 2010 | Jolly Harbour, Antigua
Georg
We are definitely falling behind.. So I moved the launch date one day back.
We will then us the dock at the yard for a couple of days to clean up > and test all equipment .. - Of course as soon as you announce the new date, everybody disappears :-( .
Good news- Today, we got the 12V power up and running again = we didn't mess up anything when making the new panels.
New name 3 days to go

Georg
It's going to be a hard to get the boat ready for Monday .. Every morning it seems like I'm the only one working on the boat .. It's just hard, to get them to show up for the job ..
Anyway, Today we removed the old boat name [EMERALD] ... This also meant, that I had to hold some sort of speech and had to drink some alcohol while doing so...??? I decided to do in in private down below ...:-) it was probably not the best speech....
Painting done 4 days to go ...
21 January 2010 | Antigua Jolly Harbour
Georg
For the last couple of days the progress did slow down significantly so I got "another" guy to help out. Working with a guy doesn't necessarily mean they work for you all day long , as most of them work on multiple jobs. Therefore, in a best case scenario, you maybe get 3-4 hours each day from a guy. (with the exception of the painters that really seem to stick to a job) Anyway, I believe we are back on track for the scheduled launch on Monday- but I will have to drop a few of my on project for now .. Tomorrow the electrician is supposed to work on my boat all day long ( as he had promised for the past two days ) well, we will see... Funny thing- currently everybody working on the boat is named georg, george the electrician .george the carpenter ,george the fiber glass guy ,and georg the captain (that's what they call me ....:-)
Sanding & Barrier Coat - 5 days to go...
20 January 2010
Georg
Today they sanded the bottom and put the barrier coat on ...(as we don't know what paint they previously used, a barrier coat is required) Final bottom color will be black as it's supposed to work better then any other color (what do I know - black it is now..:-) ) * The only mistake they made , is that they should have done the sanding back at the secured storage area ... Now the paint dust is embedded into the ground around the boat, especially in the back where the ladder is located .. .. So I'm dragging all that paint onto the boat :-( - ... I just hope it will come off easy ... * Arch is starting to look pretty good I think ... The arch still seems to be out of level ( off by 2-3 deg), but at this point I'm not sure what to do about this, as the options are limited. (what makes this super hard, is the fact that they usually don't level the boats to make sure the cockpit will drain properly)
