Painting done 4 days to go ...
Georg
01/21/2010, Antigua Jolly Harbour

For the last couple of days the progress did slow down significantly so I got "another" guy to help out. Working with a guy doesn't necessarily mean they work for you all day long , as  most of them work on multiple jobs. Therefore, in a best case scenario, you  maybe get 3-4 hours each day from a guy. (with the exception of the painters that really seem to stick to a job) Anyway, I believe we are back on track for the scheduled  launch on Monday- but I will have to drop a few of my on project for now .. Tomorrow the electrician is supposed to work on my boat all day long ( as he had promised for the past two days ) well, we will see... Funny thing- currently everybody working on the boat is named georg, george the electrician .george the carpenter ,george the fiber glass guy ,and georg the captain  (that's what they call me ....:-)

Sanding & Barrier Coat - 5 days to go...
Georg
01/20/2010

Today they sanded the bottom and put the barrier coat on ...(as we don't know what paint they previously used, a barrier coat is required) Final bottom color will be black as it's supposed to work better then any other color (what do I know - black it is now..:-) ) * The only mistake they made , is that they should have done the sanding back at the secured storage area ... Now the paint dust is embedded into the ground around the boat, especially in the back where the ladder is located .. .. So I'm dragging all that paint onto the boat :-( - ... I just hope it will come off easy ... * Arch is starting to look pretty good I think ... The arch still seems to be out of level ( off by 2-3 deg), but at this point I'm not sure what to do about this, as the options are limited. (what makes this super hard, is the fact that they usually don't level the boats to make sure the cockpit will drain properly)

The crate is here
georg
01/18/2010

Today actually "everything" worked according to plan..
I got to custom and got the crate trough in less then 3 hours...
- Now if you have never done this , this would have been quite the trip ...
Anyway, customs in Antigua is a very delicate dance between written regulations and the Caribbean idea of live in general......you encounter all kind of different officials and workers...and somehow (if you get it all right) it will work out..
There is the broker ( who has all the connections), the helper (that does "nothing" else then running around with your paper and makes sure you sign at the correct place), the people in dress up shirts with a tie ( still don't know what they do - but one of them also touched my papers at one point ..) and then finally the costumes officers in there white shirts with the absolute power. ( He will not accept your paper if it's not stapled together in the correct ORDER..)
Anyway - it all worked out - the stuff in my crate seemed just to be to much for the officer today = opening the crate is it took :-)
Anyway - it got load on a little pickup truck and off we where ....
As you can see, the boat is till in the secured yard - but hopefully this will change tomorrow ....

PS- the guy in the "dress" is painting the neighbors boat.....now way I would want to paint a boat myself .....
