Finally :-)
Sending Betts off....
Georg
02/15/2010, Iles thes Saintes , FR

Today we checked out of "France" and sent Betts off back to Guadeloupe ..(It got a bit emotional at the end but we won't talk about that here...) Checking out and "removing" Betts from the crew list presented no problem in the morning... (Not sure if they would have even cared if she would have not been present anymore ...) In the process of getting the paperwork back from Guadeloupe ( for whatever reason they had to fax it there first..????) we met a couple of sailors that where also sending there friend off to Guadeloupe on the 4PM ferry... Bulls Eye!
So we hooked the two of them up at the ferry dock .. And from what I heard they shared a hotel room for the first night somewhere on Guadeloupe..
....
...
No more of Betts's famous last suppers :-(

Maybe he swam like the Galapagos lizards, or floated, or maybe the Isle was once connected to Venezuela.
For those who care....

We are still in Isle the Saints... We missed the fact that the customs office would be closed over the weekend ...:-) all these deadlines to remember ...
Today we walked to a beach about 2miles from the anchorage .. only problem the road was laid across a pretty steep hill = we had to walke up that hill two times ...:-(
While snorkeling (big surprise there) , Jill found a bunch of Squid "dancing" for her ...
Tomorrow we will "try" to remove Betts's from our crew list, as she will be heading back to Guadeloupe on a ferry in the afternoon (not sure how she is going to get from there to Antigua, as many flights are still canceled between Guadeloupe and Antigua because of Montserrat's temper outburst last week)
Ourselves, we will leave Tuesday morning for Dominica ..18 NM of open water sailing - winds are predicted to be 15-20 knots :-)

Got up around 6:30AM - tried to clean the boat with buckets of water...
**** What we desperately need is some rain NOW ! ******

The inside of the boat is a different story - We cleaned as well as we could ... but this "stuff" might never leave the boat again ...

While checking the Anchor at [Isle the Saints], Jill found those ALIEN Fish (as she calls them) swimming around our anchor chain...
According to Jill their "wings" turn blue when they open ???
What do I know?

Could those "alien" fish possibly be flying fish? When I did testing for the Navy off Andros Island we used to find them on the deck of the ship in the morning.
02/12/2010 | Peter
I'm pretty sure those are Sea Robins, a relative of Scorpionfish.

Flying Gunards!!
That's what happened yesterday...

"The dome collapse event on 11 February lasted 55 minutes starting at 12:35 pm and reaching a peak at 13:04, although there were several pulses. Pyroclastic flows moved mainly to the northeast travelling across the sea at several points on the eastern side of the island. Pyroclastic surges moving over the sea on the eastern side of the island were visible from Lookout village. Significant deposition from pyroclastic flows has extended the coastline several hundred meters at the old Bramble airport. Pyroclastic flows also travelled northwest into Tyers Ghaut and down the Belham valley as far a Cork Hill. The ash plume reached 50,000 ft (from pilot reports) and drifted east and then southeast. Ashfall occurred in northeastern Montserrat, and was reported in southwest Antigua, Guadeloupe and Dominica. A large collapse scar has been excavated into the northeastern flank of the dome, although the summit of the original southwestern portion is still intact."

Exciting stuff - sorta like being on the Rogue river when St Helens blew & finding ash on the rafts in the morning.

Don't get too close!

Dear Betts,
Have a good celebration and remember all the good
times with Tom, forgiving yourself. It's your birth-
day, be happy. Love you, Bets and Nancy
