Heading South

01 April 2014 | Guadeloupe
Georg
You win some - you lose some - that's part of sailing

So we took off form Marigot on the french part of St Marteen at 5AM and sailed to Nevis (+ 60 nm)
I was hoping to cut on the windward side of St Kitts- but it was pretty soon clear that that's not going to happen - on the leeward side we go ... now this can go either way .. if you stay close enough to the land you might get "lucky" and get some thermal winds coming down from the hills ... or you can get completely burned = no wind or the winds are folding around the island and hit you straight onto you're nose..
Well this was our lucky day - we sailed pretty much straight into Nevis (with maybe 1/2 H of motor sailing trough a calm area) All in all a great sailing day!
Next came the trip from Nevis to Guadeloupe ...
We knew we had to wait one day in Nevis to get a decent window to head towards Guadeloupe...
Saturday looked like the only promising day within a weeks time or so.
Condition where marginal but it called for a few hours of strong winds with some northerly direction in the morning... Off we go at 5AM....
Winds where strong but what happened to the northerly aspect of it ???
So we right away knew we are not going to make the windward side of Montserrat.... Not a disaster .. I was kind of counting on that anyway...but then the winds turned south on me with the swell coming straight at us :-(
... crappy "sailing" = I mean really really crappie sailing (motor sailing) for a few hours
Once we passed Montserrat it got a bit better , but the winds still had some south in it - darn - We are still heading towards St Lucia.......
Finally the winds slowly turned on us bit by bit and it looked like we can make it at least to Pigon island (10 miles south of Deshaies our initial goal)

It didn't look very good for Deshais until the last hour or so, when the winds suddenly turned agin and made it easier for us to motor sail to Deshaies then to make it to Pigon Island - we dropped anchor at Deshaies around 6PM - with plenty of chain and some extra anchor rod - I didn't wanted to drag again here ..

We spent one night in Deshaies ( We had dinner at Jills favorite restaurant - Le Savane)
The following day we motored to Pigion Island - spent one night there - picked up the anchor before 8AM and right away picked up a Mooring at Pigon Island for some morning snorkeling- one of the best spots in the Caribbean
We arrive at the Saints around 3PM .....
We will spend a couple of days in the Saints before we will be heading towards
Dominica- Martinique and St Lucia - we should be in St Lucia around April 10th for a week of Kiteboarding
