Edit Your Video Before Uploading To YouTube

02 August 2012

Today creating a video of your own is an extremely job. All you only need is a digital camera or even your mobile phone. But if you want to share your video on YouTube, you'd better edit your video to make it perfect before uploading it. And Windows Movie Maker is the best choice for you.

Windows Movie Maker? What is it?

As a free video editor from Microsoft, Windows Movie Maker allows add effects, shorten clips or add titles and credits to edit videos, pictures and music. This video and audio editing software is included in Microsoft Windows Me, XP, and Vista. If you are a Windows 7 user, you need to download Windows Live Movie Maker.

Windows Live Movie Maker is designed as a replacement of Windows Movie Maker. It doesn't support versions of Microsoft Windows prior to Windows Vista. With Windows Live Movie Maker, you can easily create movies from your photos and videos, edit your videos with special effects and themes and more. This program also includes the ability to help you share movies on YouTube and Facebook, etc.

Unlike Windows Movie Maker, Windows Live Movie Maker is not included in Windows 7. It is a part of the Windows Live Essentials suite and you need to download it from Microsoft website. But both Windows Movie Maker and Window Live Maker are simple and easy to use.

Get Started

To edit your video with Windows Live Movie Maker, the first thing you need to do is to add the video into this program. To do this, go to Home tab, click Add videos and photos, hold down the Ctrl key and click the target video, and then click Open.

Trim Your Video

If there's something that you don't like in your video, you can simply trim it easily. Click the video you want to trim, go to Video Tools -> Edit tab -> Editing group, and then click Set start point and Set end point.

Add Music to Your Video

1. Import your song

On the Home tab, in the Add group, click Add music. Click the music file you want to use, and then click Open. Once the song is imported, you need to do trim the song and adjust volume for better results.

2. Trim the song

Trimming your song is to make sure that the song has the same length as your video. Click the music, and then drag the playback indicator on the storyboard to the point in the music where you want it to start or stop playing in your movie. You can go to Music Tools -> Options tab -> Editing group to set the start or end point.

3. Adjust volume

If you do not want a loud background song to take attention away from the content, please click the video. Under Video Tools -> the Edit tab -> Audio group, click Video volume, and then move the slider left to lower the volume or right to increase it.

What else you can do with Movie Maker?

Movie Maker is versatile video editing software. In addition to trim your video and add music, you can also do the following things to edit your videos for better results:

* Split your video

* Speed up or slow down your video

* Fade music in or out

* Add a theme

* Share your video online
