So a small simple project, you bet!!!!! Not,
To get the rudder off one needs to take the prop off. Easy...unscrew the 2 bolts and??? You guessed it....it did not come off! In fact the puller i owned was too short to grab it. So off to the store for something that would fit. The knowledgeable person at the counter said we could not take the puller out of the container to measure for sure...So i asked if this does not fit when i get to my boat can i bring it back and get my money back...Answer ,Yes, so i asked to measure at the store so as not to waist another trip back and forth...Ummm policy no!....
Okie dokie! So As luck finally fell in my favour...it fit.....Just...and with just a little hammer help ....So I cranked on the pressure, used the impact power tool to crank more power....and.....Yep! it did not move???? Ok one little tap on the front of the prop....Zap...the prop disappeared in a flash...and flew to a bad landing on the ground.... More to follow on Monday when i bring it in to a prop show for a check up....
So the next step is to remove the shaft as it is too long to just drop the rudder down as described by other owners...
My very good friend Bill showed up to be a second set of eyes....as by this time I have reached full frustration.....
Ok.. I missed one bolt and on the drive couple...and voila the shaft separated from the transmission... and he suggested to remove the flex coupler to gain the needed 3 inch clearance...and voila...the rudder drops off...and i did not have to remove the whole shaft......Excellent!!!!!
Now to get it repaired, and the prop too......
The saga continues......
