Ah! New Bottom Paint

We just repainted the bottom, finally switching from the dull-but-functional black to bright and flashy and hopefully also functional red.

"Old Ironsides" out for her July 4th trip to greet well-wishers and to turn her in her berth.

It snowed today, but we are ready

We saw the first snow today and temperatures below freezing, but we are ready. The best way to deal with snow and cold here in the north is shrinkwrapping the boat. We learned from the best back in our days in Portland - thank you Stew and Jerry. Yes, its like riding a bike, comes back right back to you. It is quite fun to be in a marina with over 100 boats all wrapping their boats at the same time. Some use all wood, some steel bar - we use a mix of wood and PVC piping. The most fun is all the actual house doors in use here, already decorated with holiday flair. Amazingly, although we didn't save anything from our old frame, I found our original "gold" doorknob that once floated for a bit in the waters off our docks after the great storm of 2009 - if you haven't heard that story check out Barb Hart's blog Harts at Sea.
