We're HERE!
23 April 2013 | Nuku Hiva Bay
Glad, Tired Bill
We're here! After 23-1/2 days, we're sitting at anchor in Nuku Hiva Bay.
We arrived last night at 0230 and had the hook down by 0300 and celebrated with champagne, smoked oysters, Mexican goat cheese, and olives. Conni had saved all the materials for this occasion and we had a great time thinking about all of the trials.
Our first big sensory experience of the island was the smell. Amazing! It smelled like a greenhouse, which I guess it is. Not rotting vegetation as in a "wetland", but a greenhouse. That damp vegetation smell that one experiences. As we came in to anchor, that was enhanced by a strong smell of night-blooming jasmine. It was very strong.
We awakened to a morning with no sailing to do, no watches to keep. What a different feeling. We have a 1330 meeting with our agent to check in to FP, so we're free for a while. We bought some time on the Wifi here in the bay and I'm able to get something posted.
More later. We did it!
