Betty
After heaving to all night, we started the engine at 0700 and have been motoring toward 40 deg N lat, 140 deg W lon, per input from David Burch, a weather consultant. We expect to find wind in this direction.

We drifted approximately 7 miles north overnight, on a glassy sea, clear skies with all the stars out. No squalls. It is impossibly beautiful out here and frustratingly true that we find ourselves in these conditions. It's no doubt going to take us longer to get to Neah Bay than we had anticipated. How much longer we don't know.

Last evening, we tossed a tin can overboard (metal deteriorates in the sea) and watched it sink. Almost immediately, a number of large fish appeared from under Discovery, attracted by the glitter of the can. They were yellow fin tuna. On a whim Andy threw out a jig and immediately got a strike, but the fish bent the hooks. This morning, there they were again, so we drug a line and right away, had a fish on, a large tuna (25 pounds maybe??) who managed to wiggle off the lure. Our next hit was an 8 pound (or so) dorado or mahi mahi. We got him on board, a much better size for us. Andy filleted him, Betty has some marinating in lime juice to make a polynesian style raw fish dish with coconut milk. We will also have baked dorado for dinner, and a fish stew made with the carcass.

We are in good spirits, the boat is performing well, the scenery gorgeous. We'll see ya when we see ya.....
