Andy is now net controller on Sunday evenings for the Pacific Puddlejump fleet. This responsibility is being shared among a number of boats both underway and not yet underway to French Polynesia. All communication among the fleet must go through net control. He follows a script, then calls for check-ins for those boats underway. Boats give their latitude/longitude position, course, speed, wind speed and direction and barometer reading. Currently there are 20-25 boats underway, three of them within 100 miles of us. Craig on Luckness arrived in Nuku Hiva yesterday, making the 2600-mile crossing in a fast 21 days.
We then have to type up the report and email it to the net control managers. The net is a wonderful communication and safety tool.
We just came through a pretty intense area of squalls, but today dawned clear and sunny. It's gonna be another hot one, as we make our way, now just 385 NM from the Marquesas.
