The sailor's bane, the sea is like royal blue glass, the wind just a whisper, sky clear blue. A perfect day for anything but sailing.
We've thus far averaged 100 NM/ day. We know through our grib files where the wind is, it's just a matter of getting there. We only carry 600 miles worth of fuel, so we must be very careful with its use.
We are hove to and drifting, and have decided not to motor at night due to the amount of debris in the sea. We have not seen any other vessels since leaving Hilo, but we have seen two ghost fishing nets and numerous floats and balls, more junk than wildlife, a sad commentary on our care of our planet.
We will no doubt get plenty of rest tonight, in preparation for a motor sail NE in search of wind. It all depends on the position of the high and low pressure systems. One positive benefit is that we'll make water while the engine is on.
Stay tuned. Aloha.
