Mexican Movie Experience

We have been working very hard this past week to get the boat decommissioned for the summer while we return to BC. It's been HOT out and we find by 2pm we just can't work anymore or risk sunstroke. So what to do to get out of the heat?
We noticed a Cineplex theatre not too far from here so we though what the heck it will be air conditioned and we can relax. Having never gone to a movie in Mexico, we had no idea what to expect. We had looked online before going to see the times and movies playing and decided to go see the SiFi Prometheus. We left the boat around 4 and walked the half mile or so in the blazing heat with the promise of spending the next 2 and a half hours in a cool dark place.
The theatre was like any other movie theatre we would see at home in Canada. Lots of movie posters, popcorn smell throughout, lots of young people working the counters and 8 theatres to choose from including one in 3D. But the differences were there too. For one when you buy your ticket it's at the same counter as the popcorn and snacks. Second difference we noticed is when you buy your ticket your shown a seating chart and you pick your spots. The seats are numbered so you know if you are going to get a good seat or not right off the bat. And the biggest difference we noticed was the PRICE!!! For tickets for both of us with a small popcorn, a large soft drink and a bottle of water the total came to a whopping 128 pesos!!! That translates to nine dollars and eighty four cents (at 13 peso's to the dollar). How cheap is that, in Canada you can't even get one movie ticket for that price never mind the way overpriced popcorn and snacks. So needless to say, despite the cheeseball sifi movie we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. And when we came out of the movie the breeze had come up and the sun had lost some of it's heat which made for a very pleasant walk back to the boat. Maybe we'll go again today!
