In My Happy Place

Floating in the warm November waters of the Sea of Cortez I spot a sea turtle about 10 feet below me and watch as he casually drifts by barley moving a flipper. As I move along the same path, I come across a school of King Angels with Blue and Yellow Chromis and several varieties of Butterflyfish in amongst them. Hovering over the coral beds I spot several of my favourite Coral Hawkfish in between the branches and hundreds of Rainbow Wrasses busily cleaning the rocks and any fish that happen by. Down below I see my husband Ian swim by resembling a dolphin as he goes deeper and deeper to check out what lays in the crevices and under the rocks. He opens a sea urchin and the fishes all swim towards him as they spot an easy dinner. And lets not forget the most common sight of all the very prolific Sargent Majors who seem to enjoy swimming all around you making you feel as if your a part of their school. Yes I'm in my happy place, the Sea of Cortez when the waters are warm and clear which in our experience is during the months of October and November. We finally made it out of La Paz after almost a month. We have about 3 weeks in which to play in the islands north of La Paz before we return to meet up with our good friends Pat and Les at the end of November. We are in no particular hurry and have no schedule we are letting the weather dictate our progress north. When we feel we have reached the half way mark we will turn around and start meandering our way back south. This is what we worked for all summer, this easy to take weather, this warm water and this laid back schedule for the winter.
