Out of the Prairies - Finally!

Don't get me wrong, I'm a prairie girl myself but driving through Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, North and South Dakota - enough prairie already! We got into some interesting land formations yesterday afternoon. We hit the Badlands in South Dakota and are they ever spectacular. We arrived in the evening as the sun was setting but it was too late to go on further so we hunkered down for the night. Temps got down to freezing but we were toasty warm in the van. There was no electricity to plug into but since we have the propane heater it really didn't matter.
We got up at the crack of dawn so that we could drive through the Badlands as the sun came up and the colours would be more pronounced. It paid off as they were red in the sun and later in the morning just beige. We saw a few big horn sheep up close as you can see in the photos in the new photo gallery. This is the stuff I've been dreaming about seeing. I love see the rocks, mountains with all their layers of colour.
Tomorrow we are headed towards Mount Rushmore I just have to see it as I find it amazing that one person could sculpt that into a mountain. From their not too sure which road we will take but I will keep you posted. The journey continues...
