In Vang Veing, we rented bikes to go caving at Tham Khan, also known as Silver Bow Cave, that sits at the foot of Oua mountain. Once we paid the entrance fees, which mine was free, two young boys led us on a pebbly road, which in rainy season would be a river. We got to what looked like a campsite that had a hammock. They gave each of us head lamps and led us into the big, rocky cave formation. When we got in, it was nice because of the cool air inside. Then the boys led us into a hotter room with big cave formations and rocks that made music when you banged on them. Then we army crawled into a small room with big stalactites that were beautiful in the light of our lamps. Then we army crawled back out and went into a small passage way with a ramp that led to what looked like a swimming pool with no water inside the cave. It looked kind of funny and out of place . But our guides told us that in rainy session it would fill up with water because of all the rain. The pool really looked nice. It was even tiled with concrete and looked really new. We all tock turns walking up the ramp and looking into the cave swimming pool. Then our guides led us into a long tunnel where we were pressed to the ground, scooting along barely able to army crawl. It must have been really amusing for the boys to watch us struggle, I bet we looked really funny . We looked like we had been in a small dust storm but not that bad. We thanked our guides and went to give them a tip of 2000Kip each when they demanded 40,000 Kip! Mom did not have that much if we wanted to get ice cream afterwords so she gave them 30,000k and we got Magnums chocolate truffle ice cream treats when we got back.
