Samoa day 2-4
23 September 2012 | A. Samoa
Bill
Day 2 very good 9 loads of laundry in 2 hrs a new record!, downtown museum, 4 new deep cycvle batteries and our first trip to the post ofice.
Day 3 Our primry reason for coming to A.Samoa was to have the school books shipped in since they use the US postal service here. Yesterday was not successfull so today we returned with tracking numbers in hand ( tracking numbers are always very impressive). I did get to speak with the postmaster who explained our packages were most likely on a dock in California waiting for the container to get filled before shipping. He explained it should only be a few weeks and hardley every takes over 2 months! but we should check back in 2 weeks and see! What can you do? except go get some icecream, we got our medical cards from the LBJ tropical medical center and Becky got her medical checkup all for free.
Day 4 The bus service is great, they convert pickup truck by removing the bed then adding a wood frame bus to the bed some trucks are 1 1/2 ton pickups some are small Toyota's. It's only $1 anywhere on the island $.25 for kids so all the kids have quarters stuck in there ears? We got up early and all had our dental visits and cleanings the clinic reminded me of my time in IHS with very basic care but friendly staff. We did rent a car so we could travel on the weekend when the bus service stops. We visited the National park headquarters about 100 yards from the boat this is the furthest National park from the US the main office was destroyed in the Tsunami so they were still in a temporary building. At night we went out by the airport to the only football stadium on the island to watch some highschool football. They play 2 games on Friday night so the action is very fast. Tomorrow we will hope to hike in the NAtional park and explore the north shore of the island. It is very hot here the hottest of any place we have been although the people seem to be very neat and well dressed.
