We had been warned about boat traffic in the Mallaca Strait's S of Singapore( the worlds busiest shipping lane) but were not prepared for the N coast of Java. The last 2 nights we wove our way through 100's of local fishing boats all lit up with flood lights, spot lights, party lights, Christmas lights but not a singe navigation light in the lot. To add excitement there are the oil fields stretching the entire coast and all of their large support vessels some the size of small islands, and the local boats like to come close and look! We don't mind a look but when you head straight at someone @ 2 am who is trying desperately to keep the sails full, keep his family safe and not spill his coffee it starts to wear on you. The radar is of little use since there are so many boats to keep track of and many are made of bamboo, gum, sticks, pop bottles and twine the radar needs to be turned up so high to spot them small birds and flying fish also show up!. Daytime is fun we had internet connection for the first day till well off shore and caught 2 Marlin both a little over 4' , bill fish get a pass on Water Musick but we had good releases and lots of photos. Bali was very modern compared with our other experiences in Indonesia but people still friendly and the scenery amazing. We took a tour one day to water falls
and hot springs along with monkey forest and just viewing the diversity of this beautiful island. I thought of the wheat farmers back in WW when I watched the rice harvest. All by hand still cutting and threshing then sewing up the sacks to transport. We should arrive in Karimunjawa a group of islands off the N central coast of Java and from here we will leave our boat for a few days trip to explore Java, like exploring the W coast of the US in a week but at least we will try. Sailing along fine 8kts in 1m seas so all is well for now
